Advantages:
Since the forklift will be used in-house, many people may prefer an electric forklift to a diesel or propane forklift. The reason is obvious. Electric models have no tailpipe emissions. Other obvious benefits include:
Less noise. The soft, melodic hum of an electric motor is somewhat quieter than that of a fossil-fueled motor.
No need to store fuel. Storing propane or diesel can be costly and can also lead to safety issues.
There are no fuel costs. It is estimated that if you run a 5,000 pound capacity elevator 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, propane could cost as much as $26,000 over 5 years.
Maintenance costs are lower. A propane or diesel forklift includes an engine, transmission, and radiator, while an electric forklift only includes an electric motor that relies on fewer moving parts.
Low center of gravity. Therefore, electric forklifts are more stable when performing high-intensity lifting.
Better turning radius. This allows the lift to carry more weight and actually helps limit damage to the vehicle, thereby increasing productivity.
The rear view is clearer. The propane tank does not block the driver's view of the rear of the elevator.
Components last longer. Electric forklifts require fewer replacement parts than propane.
Improve driver's work efficiency. Less movement of the legs, arms, and feet is required to drive the lift.
Less waste liquid needs to be removed. Since electric forklifts have no engine, radiator or transmission, there are no fluid changes required.
Reduce brake wear. The electric forklift automatically stops electrically when the driver removes his or her foot from the pedal.




Disadvantages:
Of course, just as there are advantages to electric forklifts, there are also disadvantages. For example:
Battery maintenance can be an issue. Operators must stop work regularly to clean battery terminals, add water, and charge when necessary.
Forgetting to charge your battery can cause productivity issues. The usual procedure is to charge the battery overnight, but if this is not done then the forklift will not be usable the next day.
Adequate ventilation must be maintained when charging the battery. The area used to store the lift may not have adequate ventilation while the battery is charging, which may cause safety issues.
Weather issues can challenge battery reliability. It is known that cold temperatures and wet weather can adversely affect battery operation.
Electric Forklift Cost. Electric forklifts cost more than propane or diesel models.
Spare batteries must be kept handy. If the elevator's battery is dead, trying to recharge it won't solve the problem.
The warehouse's electrical system may be inadequate. Battery chargers have voltage and current requirements that the electrical system may not be able to meet.
