Types of Forklift
Side loader
Side loaders are a subtype of warehouse forklifts commonly used in steel service centers and manufacturing plants to move heavy, long and bulky items such as pipes and lumber.
Telehandler
A telehandler, also known as a telehandler or reach truck, is a combination crane and forklift that features a boom and telescoping arms that are ideal for getting into tight spaces and odd angles.
Heavy forklift
A heavy-duty forklift combines the functions of a warehouse forklift and a telehandler. Although it cannot reach difficult angles like a telehandler, it can lift heavier loads higher off the ground than a warehouse forklift. many.
Portable stacker crane
The walking stacker has a unique appearance and strong practicality. Unlike other forklifts, these types of material handling vehicles do not have a cab, and walk-behind stackers have a much higher ground clearance than traditional pallet trucks.
Reach forklift
A reach forklift is a warehousing vehicle mainly used for indoor operations. Its key ability is to extend forks beyond bays and into warehouse racks in ways that standard forklifts cannot. It also features an open compartment, allowing the operator to gain greater visibility.
Warehouse forklift
Warehouse forklifts are the most well-known type of forklift. It resembles a golf cart, with twin forks sticking out from the front. You'll most often use this forklift in a facility that stocks many items, as it's ideal for loading and unloading pallets and transporting items between delivery vehicles.
Counterbalanced forklift
A counterbalanced forklift is a popular type of lift that has forks at the front and a counterweight at the rear to balance the weight of the load. Counterbalanced forklifts have no extension arms and therefore are able to move directly onto the load.
Rough terrain forklift
Rough terrain forklifts, also known as straight mast forklifts, are designed for outdoor job sites with uneven surfaces. These trucks are equipped with sturdy oversized and threaded pneumatic tires, giving them better balance and stability to safely transport materials on rocky terrain.
Pallet truck
Pallet trucks are specialized in nature. Also known as pump trucks, these pallet lifts are unable to lift large loads due to their small size. In exchange for power, a pallet truck has a small footprint, allowing it to fit into the tightest of spaces and lift small loads in tight spaces.
Order Selector
Order pickers are a subtype of portable palletizer operators used to pick and deliver materials from warehouses because they can pick individual units without unloading full pallets. Their versatile design means they can handle items of all sizes, from car parts to furniture.

Moving the forklift
The operator then moves the forklift to the designated area where they will be working.
Lifting and stacking
Once the operator has positioned the forklift, they use the lifting mechanism to pick up the load and stack it in the desired area.
Maneuvering
During the entire process, the operator must maneuver the forklift in a safe and controlled manner to avoid any accidents.
Lowering and dismounting
After the load has been stacked, the operator must lower the forklift and dismount using the proper techniques to ensure their safety.
Parking and shutdown
Finally, the operator parks the forklift in the designated area and shuts down the engine.
Post-operation inspection
Once the forklift has been shut down, the operator performs a post-operation inspection to ensure the forklift is in good condition and ready for the next use.

A forklift is a relatively simple machine that primarily consists of a chassis, a power source, a hydraulic system, and a lifting mechanism. The power source is typically an internal combustion engine powered by gas, diesel, or propane or an electric motor powered by rechargeable batteries.
When a forklift operator engages the accelerator pedal, the engine or electric motor powers the hydraulic pump, which pressurizes hydraulic fluid that is distributed throughout the machine. The hydraulic fluid flows through the control valves and into the hydraulic cylinders that move the lifting mechanism up and down.
The lifting mechanism is generally located at the front of the forklift and consists of two hydraulic cylinders mounted on either side of the mast. The mast is the vertical column that supports the lifting mechanism and enables it to raise or lower loads. Attached to the mast are forks that slide back and forth and can pick up, move, and unload materials.
The operator controls the movement of the forklift by using pedals and levers. The accelerator pedal allows the operator to control the speed of the machine, while the brake pedal and handbrake are used to stop the forklift. The steering wheel controls the direction of travel, and the lift and tilt levers control the lifting mechanism.
To lift a load, the operator drives the forklift up to the load and positions the forks beneath it. The forks are then lifted by using the lift and tilt levers, and the load is transported to the desired location. To lower the load, the operator releases the hydraulic pressure by operating the lift lever in the opposite direction.
How to Maintain Forklift
Most of the moving joints or parts of a forklift are lubricated. This is done to prevent the harmful effects of friction. Make sure to lubricate all of these fittings regularly, and be sure to remove any worn ball bearings.
There are a variety of fluids that help your forklift's engine and other working parts run efficiently. These include transmission and hydraulic fluids, coolant and engine oil. Check these fluids regularly, although this will depend on how often the forklift is used.
Forklifts can be powered by batteries, liquefied propane gas, diesel or gasoline. If your machine runs on batteries, make sure the batteries are always fully charged. Also, if your forklift runs on gasoline or fuel, make sure the fuel tank is always full.
Gauges and lights on the forklift dashboard will indicate when something is malfunctioning. Therefore, attention must be paid to these instruments and appropriate measurements taken when these instruments indicate any malfunction. Doing so can avoid more expensive repairs.
During forklift maintenance, another important aspect that should be checked daily is the tires. If your tires use air, make sure the correct air pressure is maintained in the tires. If the tire is a solid rubber tire, make sure there are no gaps.
Start the forklift engine and adjust the rearview mirror and seat to ensure good visibility.
Check hydraulic controls, brakes and steering to make sure they are working properly.
To move the forklift forward or backward, use the accelerator and brake pedals located to the right of the operator's seat.
Use the steering wheel to steer the forklift in the desired direction.
To raise or lower the forks, use the lever located on the right side of the steering wheel. Push the lever forward to raise the fork, and pull it back to lower the fork.
Tilt the fork forward or rearward using the tilt control lever located to the left of the operator's seat.
Horn and light controls are located on the steering column.
Use the parking brake to secure the forklift when not in use.

How To Move Heavy Objects Without A Forklift
Hand trucks or dollies
Hand trucks or dollies are great tools for moving heavy objects, especially if they are on wheels. They can be used to lift and move items up to a few hundred pounds, and are especially useful for moving items up and down stairs.
Cranes or hoists
If the object is extremely heavy, a crane or hoist may be necessary. These can be rented or hired from equipment rental companies, but they require special training to operate safely.
Rollers
Rollers, or skates, can be used to move heavy items along the ground. They work by reducing friction, making it easier to move heavy objects. Rollers can be purchased or rented from equipment rental companies.
Team lifting
For very heavy items that cannot be moved by one person, team lifting is often the best option. This involves having multiple people work together to lift and move the object. It’s important to use proper lifting techniques to avoid injury.
Levers and pulleys
Levers and pulleys can be used to lift and move heavy objects, but this method requires some knowledge of physics and engineering. A lever can be used to lift heavy objects by applying force at a point away from the object. A pulley system can be used to reduce the amount of force required to lift a heavy object.
Components of Forklift

Truck frame
Truck Frame is the most vital component which forms the base of the machine. All of the key components of the forklift including wheels, counterweight and mast are attached to the truck frame.
Counterweight
The Counterweight is a cast iron weight attached to the rear part of the forklift. The aim of the counterweight is to counter balance the load that is being lifted. On Electric Forklift, Counterweight is fixed to the lead-acid battery.
Power source
The forklift’s power source consists of an internal combustion engine. The engine can be fueled by LPG, CNG, diesel and natural gas. Electric Forklifts derive power from fuel cells or Lead Acid Batteries.
Carriage
The carriage serves as the base to the forklift. The Carriage is fixed on mast rails so that it can be easily moved upward and downward.
Mast
The Mast is a vertical part that lifts up and pushes down the loads. The Mast component consists of Interlocking Rails that offers horizontal control. Like Carriage, Mast may be equipped with rollers.
Material of Forklift
Steel
This is the primary material used in forklift construction. It is strong, durable, and can withstand harsh operating conditions.
Aluminum
Forklifts that are used in sensitive or corrosion-prone environments, such as food processing plants, are made of aluminum. It is lightweight and resists corrosion.

Fiberglass
Forklifts that are used in chemical plants or other hazardous environments are made of fiberglass. It is resistant to chemicals, fire, and electricity.
Plastic
Some forklift components, such as the protective covers around the control panel, are made of plastic. It is lightweight and durable.
Rubber
Forklift tires are made of rubber. They are designed to provide traction and cushioning.
