Different Types of Forklifts

Counterbalanced Lifts
The counterbalanced lift is the most commonly used type of forklift for indoor operations in warehouses. It is a simple device with forks at the front of the machine and is used to carry heavy and bulky items. The counterbalanced lift is available in a variety of sizes to suit any need of a warehouse owner. Since it does not have an extended arm, it is fairly simple to use.

There are 3 types of this forklift: electric, diesel, or propane. The diesel model is larger and heavier and can be used for any type of outdoor application due to its greater power. The propane model can be used for both indoor and outdoor activities and can save fuel. The electric model costs less than the other models and can be used for indoor operations.

Three-wheeled counterbalanced lift
The three-wheeled counterbalanced lift is very similar to the counterbalanced lift and is also very well-known in the logistics and transportation industry. But unlike the four-wheeled model, it is more maneuverable, making it an ideal truck for narrow aisles operating in tight spaces. Therefore, it is used for lighter load applications as the load capacity is limited to 2500 kg.

In addition, the three-wheeled counterbalanced lift is usually used for indoor activities, in warehouses with smooth floors. Its tight maneuverability can significantly increase productivity. But be careful, as it is generally not as stable as a four-wheel counterbalanced crane, and avoid turning too quickly when loaded.

Outrigger lifts
Used primarily in warehouse work and indoor operations, outrigger lifts are known for their extendable lifting height. In fact, with its high-rise storage pallet racks, this machine is ideal for large warehouses with high racks, as it offers heights that many other machines cannot reach. Its stabilizing legs at the front allow it to increase support, so no weight is needed to balance the lift.

There are three types of telescopic lifts: upright, which can lift one load per bay. Double-deep, which has extended forks and can reach twice the depth of standard forks. Double-deep is better suited for multi-pallet loads. Finally, saddle, which has long forks, is best suited for lifting multiple loads in one bay.

Walk-behind trucks
Walk-behind forklifts require the operator to walk behind the truck. Equipped with a motor, it can lift heavier loads, but can also operate in tight spaces. The operator can move it forward or backward at will and stop the machine when needed. It is mainly used in warehouses and storage facilities and is very simple to use as the operator only needs to place the forks under the load and then use the electric motor to lift the load.

Its electric motor also enables it to lift heavier pallets than a manual pallet truck. However, due to its smaller wheels, it is best used for small capacity items and indoor use. There are many types of walkie forklifts that can be used for different purposes and different needs. Some use the front legs to distribute the load, while others use straddle legs to distribute the load. Some come with a platform for the operator to stand on.

Cherry Picker
A cherry picker is a type of lift that is very popular in a warehouse environment for order picking. It is mainly used to lift and lower the driver while he is still operating the truck. It is used on many construction sites and its main task is to reach all the inaccessible areas. Therefore, it is very useful in painting buildings, installing windows or lighting, felling trees, etc.
