What should you pay attention to in daily maintenance of forklifts?

Jan 31, 2025

Daily maintenance of forklifts is the key to ensure their safe operation and extend their service life. Here are some important daily maintenance precautions for forklifts:

1. Cleaning: Regularly remove dust, mud and dirt from the forklift, especially on the fork frame, gantry slide, generator, starter, battery electrode fork column, water tank, air filter and other parts.

2. Check fasteners: Regularly check and tighten the fork frame support, lifting chain tensioning screws, wheel screws, wheel fixing pins, brakes, steering screws and other parts to ensure that they are not loose.

3. Check the steering system: Check the stability and reaction speed of the steering system to ensure that the steering is flexible and there is no abnormal sound.

4. Check for leakage: Check all pipe joints, diesel tanks, oil tanks, brake pumps, lifting cylinders, water pumps, engine oil pans, torque converters, transmissions, drive axles, final reducers, hydraulic steering gears, steering cylinders and other parts, and deal with leakage problems in a timely manner.

5. Tire inspection: Regularly check the tire pressure to ensure that it meets the manufacturer's specifications. Check the tire contact patch and side for damage and the rim for deformation.

6. Check fluids and oils: Check and refill brake fluid, coolant and water tank levels. Use clean tap water when adding water, and if antifreeze is used, make sure it is the same type of antifreeze. The amount of engine oil, hydraulic oil and electrolyte should also be checked regularly to ensure that they are within the specified range.

7. Brake system inspection: Regularly check the function of the brake pedal, inching pedal, clutch pedal and handbrake to ensure that they are responsive and not sluggish or stuck.

8. Electrical system inspection: Check all electrical systems, including lights, horns, batteries, starters, generators and wiring. Make sure all electrical connections are clean and tight, without wear or damage.

9. Check belts and chains: Check the fan belt for proper tightness and the chain for excessive wear or damage.

10. Maintain forklift paths: Keep the forklift travel path clean and unobstructed, and regularly check the path for damage or need for repair.

11. Record maintenance activities: Record all maintenance activities and inspection results to ensure a complete maintenance history.

12. Train operators: Ensure that all employees who operate forklifts receive appropriate training and understand the maintenance requirements and safe operating procedures of forklifts.

By following these maintenance precautions, you can effectively prevent forklift failures, improve operating efficiency, and ensure the safety of operators.
